Sage Meadows Golf Course is a “modern links-insprired” Tommy Bolt signature course that is fair yet challenging to golfers of all ages and skills. Sage Meadows offers among the best practice facilities in Northeast Arkansas including a practice green, a large driving range and a short game area which are all open to the public.
The superintendent of Sage Meadows is Bob Wollenberg. Wollenberg, who has a family history in the turf industry that dates back almost a century, is a graduate of Penn State University’s world-renowned turf program. With his education he also brings experience from several prestigious courses over the last decade. He has already impressed much of the local golfing community with the excellent playability and never-ending desire for improvements to the course.
Sage Meadows is one of only thirteen courses that make up the prestigious Arkansas Natural State Golf Trail. The course plays at roughly 6,900 yards and is consistently ranked among the top semi-private golf courses in the state. The course offers some of the best zoysiagrass fairways and lush bentgrass greens. With water on nine of the holes, Sage Meadows offers great tournament play as well as enjoyment for the recreational round.
Holes of notable mention include the 2nd hole with a waterfall dedicated to the memory of the late Rachel Stewart, the 6th hole with a tight tee shot between water on the left and trees on the right, the signature 9th hole with a beautiful but treacherous water hazard from tee to green, and the 14th hole which can rank among the toughest on the course if not played properly.
Sage Meadows is home to several tournaments including the NEA Open, The Rachel Stewart Golf Classic, Heatland Players Senior Tour’s Optus Senior Open in 2006 and 2007, and the Arkansas State University Golf Classic. As a home course to Arkansas State University’s Mens and Womens Golf Teams, Sage Meadows has hosted several college golf tournaments.
