Highlands Reserve Golf Club
In Florida, one is hard pressed to find staggering heights of any kind in regards to topography. A state typically as flat as Kansas (only with hurricanes, Mickey Mouse, and citrus fruit), Florida has about as many elevation changes as John Daily has flattering shirts, but in the case of Highlands Reserve Golf Club the typical or ordinary is nowhere to be seen. At the summit of Florida, and sitting astride scenic landscaping, Highlands Reserve Golf Club, is welcomed change from the established Florida golf course design. The Carolinas come to mind when playing these tree-lined fairways, hearkening back to the famous Scottish style courses, and yet Florida is not completely absent from the overall feel of the course. Citrus trees line the proximity of the fairways and the warm, sunny weather is only typical to Florida and perhaps the equator. Golf Digest gives this course 3.5 Stars, which means the differing design is not only a nice change, but a great course for all levels of play. Players seeking a challenge will find the greens, perplexing and challenging, while remaining fair, and players seeking a mundane golf destination are encouraged to stay far away from Highlands Reserve Golf Club.
