Carnoustie Golf Links
Golf has been played at Carnoustie since the days before Columbus discovered the Americas. Renowned as having the toughest closing holes in golf, it’s also recognized as the fairest test of all the Open venues. Host to the Open Championship on seven occasions the winners list reads like a who’s who of golf. From Tommy Armour in 1931continuing with Henry Cotton in 1937, Ben Hogan in 1953, Gary Player in 1968, Tom Watson in 1975, Paul Lawrie in 1999 and Padraig Harrington in 2007. The final three have all gone to play-offs thanks to Carnoustie closing stretch and who can forget the demise of France’s Jean Van de Velde who required just a double bogey to win here in ’99? Also host to the Seniors Open in 2010 and the Ladies British Open in 2011 Carnoustie is simply a must play for every golfer.
